Dish Network vs DirecTV
Equipment and Installation
When you compare DirecTV and
Dish Network, you have to compare
price and equipment quality
and compare network availability
to have better choice for selecting
the right satellite TV package.
DirecTV and Dish Network
- Common Installation Issues
- G-6 coaxial cable in your
home
- Necessary permissions
- Free installation for up
to four TVs if you commit
to a 12-month plan, highly
recommended you use this option
unless you have other reasons
for not choosing 12 months.
Dish Network Equipment
Dish Network equipment offers
an integrated solution with
completely matched antenna receiver
and remote. Therefore, all components
work perfectly with each other
and you are able to get optimum
benefit of the equipment you
buy.
Dish Network has an online wizard
that assists you through the
selection process. Even after
you fill in an online form,
your decisions are not final.
The site engineer who will visit
your home will help in the final
decision. We find this a very
good way to compare price and
equipment quality giving the
customer freedom yet ensuring
that he gets a technically sound
deal.
DirecTV Equipment Philosophy
DirecTV does not make you buy
your equipment directly from
them. A number of vendors produce
DirecTV dishes, receivers and
accessories. This gives you
the freedom to choose. Development
is faster as vendors bring out
new models with better capabilities
to the market.
Installing is no hassle at all
if you commit to a 12-month
subscription. In all such case,
professional installation is
free. We recommend that you
consider this option. You can
even get DirecTV installed on
a boat or an RV. This is a good
option. It will let you carry
your world with you wherever
you go!
DirecTV Accessories
DirecTV offers you a wide variety
of receivers and TiVo options.
They however do not have the
range of accessories that Dish
Network offers.
Dish Network Accessories
and Facilities
Major accessories with your
Dish Network connection are
- IR to UHF converter or the
remote, wireless phone jacks
and a spare remote. A surge
protector is a necessity - not
an accessory. We strongly recommend
you use one.
In addition, Dish Network offers
you a 'Home Protection Plan'
for $5.99/ month where
every component of your satellite
system (barring the TV) is protected
by a replacement warranty. This
even includes your cabling that
can be damaged in an electrical
surge. If a technician does
need to visit, he does so at
$29 instead of the regular $99,
which is a substantial saving.
