As we have discussed previously, DirecTV does not force you to buy your equipment directly from them. A number of vendors produce DirecTV dishes, receivers and accessories. Although this complicates your choice somewhat, it gives you the freedom to choose direct TV equipment. Development is faster as vendors bring out new models of satellite dish antennas and receivers with better capabilities to capture larger chunks of the market. |
The flip side to the arrangement as far as we are concerned is that it is difficult to actually put a price on what will your hardware costs be!
What is TiVo®?
I need to explain this feature before we go further in to selection of DirecTV equipment in general and DirecTV receivers in particular; because this is something, you will look for in them. TiVo® stands for "tell it once only". This service allows you to record up to 70 hours of programming on your DVR.
When you program TiVo, it will track and record your favorite shows whenever
they are on the air. Even if the network switches channels, TiVo will
track it down and record it for you. Using TiVo, you can also pause a
live TV broadcast for up to 30 min, rewind it and play it back - in slow
motion if you wish. This gives you good control over your viewing. TiVo
is extremely popular with subscribers.
